We’ve all heard this saying countless times, right? The phrase is usually meant sarcastically and is most certainly not a compliment – “Careful you don’t just become a jack of all trades,” or “Remember, no one wants a jack of all trades!”
Interestingly, the complete saying was originally “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.” It was formerly intended as a compliment! It means that a person is a generalist rather than a specialist, versatile and adept at many things.
